Hey.. I noticed that the hadrosaur mommy and
chick lack cheeks, a statement on herbivorous
dinosaurs or just cartoonish whimsy?

Raymond, they lack mammalian cheeks. There are still flaps of tissue in there, just not as extensive as in an overmuscled mammalian face.

Most definitely, just how extensive were
the “cheeks” is what I’ve always wondered.
Truth be told, the Witmer Leptoceratops
seemed a little extreme to me.
Well, it seems to me there isn’t a whole lot of research on stuff like this, and Witmer’s leading the way by default on some issues. In other words, for now, he’s probably right, but some of this work is still in its early stages.
Incidentally, I forget if anyone noted that Carney and Carnita have mammalian checks when eating…
Artistic license. Who cares? 
Oh, and it’s a nice (and probably more realistic) departure on those sappy and cheesy baby-animal-grows-up stories. =D
